Embark on a refined aquatic journey through one of Costa Rica’s most iconic waterways. Our Tárcoles River Boat Tour offers an intimate, 45 to 60-minute exploration of a vibrant ecosystem where the river meets the sea, creating a sanctuary for some of the world’s most prehistoric and colorful residents.

A Prehistoric Encounter

Glide gracefully across the water’s surface as you enter the realm of the American Crocodile. The Tárcoles River is home to one of the largest populations of these magnificent reptiles in the world. From the safety and comfort of our vessel, you will have the unparalleled opportunity to admire these giants basking along the muddy banks or drifting silently through the currents—a truly breathtaking display of nature’s raw power.

The riverbanks serve as a living gallery for bird enthusiasts. As we navigate the calm waters, you will witness a stunning array of aquatic birds, including:

  • Elegant Roseate Spoonbills with their vibrant pink plumage.
  • Statuesque Ospreys and Herons patrolling the shoreline.
  • The unmistakable silhouette of Scarlet Macaws soaring overhead, painting the sky with streaks of crimson.

Hidden Wonders of the Mangroves

While the crocodiles command attention, the surrounding lush vegetation often reveals its hidden gems. Keep a watchful eye on the canopy; the river often grants lucky travelers’ sightings of playful monkeys swinging through the branches and an array of iguanas blending seamlessly into the tropical foliage.

Join us for a sophisticated encounter with the wild, where the serenity of the river meets the thrill of the jungle.

Continuing our tour, you will visit The Crocs Skywalk.

The Croc Skywalk: A Masterpiece of Nature & Luxury

Río Tárcoles Bridge

Nestled at the gateway of the Central Pacific, The Croc Skywalk at Puente del Río Tárcoles is far more than a viewpoint—it is a sophisticated sanctuary where architectural innovation meets the raw power of the wild. Designed for the discerning traveler, this premier destination offers a unique advantage over one of the world’s most impressive crocodile habitats.

Returning to the pier, before the drop off, you will visit Puntarenas City (available only for ships arriving into Puntarenas pier. For Caldera this stop is not included). This is the largest city in the Central Pacific. Puntarenas offers visitors and locals alike a variety of tantalizing fresh sea foods such as shrimp, lobsters, fish, etc. Additionally, a lively and attractive city, perhaps one of Puntarenas’s most interesting features is the Paseo de los Turistas.

This is a tree-lined promenade adjacent to the beach. This area turns into a colorful street on weekends, as people from all over flock the popular restaurants, discos, cafes, bars and hotels that are found here. While the beach here is not safe for swimming because the water tends to be murky, it is still a great place to hang out and relax with the local Ticos. It is worth exploring this city, as there are many beautiful old unusual buildings found all over the place, as well as several fabulous restaurants and hotels. Puntarenas also has a lovely old church, which is a must see as well.
