COSTA RICA VOLUNTEER WORK & EXPLORATION – 7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

Costa Rica Volunteer Work is one of our 20 Educational Tours for students groups visiting our country for a rainforest and learning experience.

VISITING: Our Costa Rica Volunteer Work will be visiting the following regions: San Jose, Arenal Volcano & Sarapiqui.

EDUCATIONAL OBJETIVES

Day 1- Introduction about Costa Rica.

Day 2- Learn about Volcanology, Active Volcanoes, Explosive Volcanism, Submarine Volcanoes. Remote Sensing, Chemistry and Physics of Magma, Volcano Seismology. Underground rivers and hot springs. Have a blast enjoining at the Largest Hot Springs Park in the World

Day 3-4 – Costa Rica Wildlife and how Rehabilitation centers helps to protects it.

Day 5- Understanding the main concepts of Tropical Ecology, Rain Forest, Water Cycle, Carbon Cycle, Food Chain, Preys and Predators in a natural habitat, Rain Forest Architecture and Structure.

Day 7 – Learn about local schools and education in rural areas.

Day 1. WELCOME TO COSTA RICA (D). Our Costa Rica Volunteer Work & educational Student program start with the group arrival to the International Airport Juan Santamaria. Upon arrival at the San Jose airport, you will be met by one of our representatives how will explain your itinerary, answer any questions and provide you with the vouchers and information about your trip. 

Transfer to Hotel Park Inn and free time at leisure. Welcome Dinner in a typical restaurant in San Jose.

Day 2. ARENAL VOLCANO (B, L, D). Your breath-taking, adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel and a relaxing private drive through the wonderful Costa Rican countryside on an air-conditioned transportation and recent model deluxe bus. Your guide will point out many sights of interest including coffee plantations, sugar cane and citrus plantations, diverse fruit stands and rural farming communities. You will be heading Fortuna Town, about 2 hours’ drive from San Jose. Upon arrival to the beautiful property of Mistiko Park, you will have some free time for use restrooms and explore the surroundings before to start the nature walk into the rainforest and enjoy the Hanging Bridges.

Located in the northern lowlands of Costa Rica, the impressive Arenal Volcano is a National Park that attracts thousands and thousands of tourists due to its beauty and recent past volcanic activity. Back in the 80´s the volcano was very active, but now has reduced its activity and we could say that it has entered a period of calm. However, the beauty of the Volcano and surroundings are just spectacular. Once in La Fortuna Town, a sightseeing tour will show you the highlights of the area and its rich diversity of tourist attractions, ecosystems, the lake, culture, customs & traditions of this emblematic town of Costa Rica.

At Mistiko Park and Hanging Bridges, enjoy travelling the forest comfortably in our revitalizing paths full of nature and wildlife. In front of the majestic Arenal Volcano you can admire its beauty and the wonderful forest that surrounds it, as well as a reserve populated with wildlife in their natural habitat that will allow you an encounter with the roots of the human species. Walk across 10 regular bridges and 6 Hanging Bridges and gaze at a 18 meters (60 feet) waterfall within a comfortable non-slippery trail without steps and acquire a once in a life time bracing adventure. 

Later, you will relax in one of the best thermal water places in the area: Baldi Hot Springs. At Baldi Hot Springs you will find an endless dreamed stay, where the natural environment, colorful natural gardens, therapeutic waters, pure air and our care combine on a perfect state; the dream came true. The unique frame where your experience turns into the most unforgettable one. In here you will enjoy multiple thermal pools, a giant stem room, luxury pool bars, Giant waterslides, relaxing areas and much more.

Upon arrival to Baldi Hot Springs, enjoy a delicious Buffet Lunch before to jump into the Thermal Pools. Lockers and Towels are included in our tours. Evening Dinner at Baldi before to check in at Hotel San Bosco in Fortuna Town.

Day 3. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND EDUCATIONAL TOUR AT ASIS WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER. (B, L, D). Our Costa Rica Volunteer Work includes after breakfast a transfer to Asis Project for a full day Volunteerism Program.

At Proyecto Asis Wildlife Rescue Center, the group will learn about their mission to make a difference in the lives of the animals they have rescued and in the lives of the people who visit and who volunteer with them. Located in the breathtaking tropical rain forests of the Arenal Volcano area of Costa Rica, a team member work to fulfill the mission to create intercultural connections and promote the building of a new environmental consciousness through volunteer programs and daily educational tours.

This day, the group will participate in a special activity and lesson about injured animals and efforts to re-introduce them into their natural habitat. During the morning, the students will help preparing the food & feeding all the animals in the center. In the afternoon, another activity but with sloths will be place before to return to the hotel. Lunch at Asis Rescue Center. Dinner in Fortuna Town.

Day 4. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND EDUCATIONAL TOUR AT ASIS WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER. (B, L, D). After breakfast, transfer to Asis Project for another full day Volunteerism Program. This day, the group will support the center doing different jobs with the cages, cleaning, repairing or painting the facilities. Full interaction with all the animals is included on this day. Lunch at Asis Rescue Center. Dinner in Fortuna Town.

Day 5. SARAPIQUI (B, L, D) Today after breakfast say good bye to Arenal and continue the journey with a transfer to Sarapiqui Region for an amazing adventure combo tour at Hacienda Pozo Azul. The driving distance from Arenal to Hacienda Pozo Azul in La Virgen de Sarapiqui will take about 60 minutes. Sarapiqui is the name of the river and it is the most important tourist attraction in the region. In the Upper part, the river is perfect for the practice of the Whitewater Rafting. In the Lower Part, boat tours, transfers and fishing are important economic activities.

Costa Rica provides White Water Rafting experiences that take your adrenaline to top levels and fascinating Canopy Tours going high above the treetops. Now you can enjoy the two activities in an extraordinary way. Discover the natural marvels of Sarapiqui; an extensive territory located in the northeastern parts of the country, with a variety of crystal clear rivers, an abundance of beautiful tropical forests and villages inhabited by friendly and laborious people.

The Canopy Tour takes about an hour and a half and the nine cables of different length stretch over the forest with the last one crossing the Sarapiqui River.

The rafting at Sarapiqui River has different levels between class II and class III, presenting vibrant scenery to those who want to participate in this exciting activity. Nine miles of unexpected rapids in combination with calm and relaxing intervals makes this an unforgettable experience for bird watchers and nature lovers. 

After the tour, check in at Tirimbina Lodge. Dinner at the lodge and free time.

Day 6. SARAPIQUI COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEERING PROJECT (B, L, D).  Breakfast at the lodge and after it, transfer to the rural local school at Calle La Lucha. This is a very poor primary school with a student population of about 80 students in 6 level. First to 6th grade.  The students come from the community called La Lucha (The Fight), a peasant´s village where many are immigrants from Nicaragua and work in the pineapple plantations or farms nearby.

During our visit, the group will learn about their living conditions, customs and traditions of this region. At the school, the group will help and support it doing volunteerism, such as school painting, reforestation, organic farms, etc.  Sport activities will be arranged such as soccer games and several other traditional games commons in Costa Rica. Combined with this visit, the group will be able to visit a typical and small farm, where the owner will explain to the group the common crops in the region, how to plant it, harvest and prepare. Here the group will learn about Black Pepper, Pineapple, Cassava, Jack Fruit, Cashews, Malanga, sweet potatoes and many other products.

After this activity, return to the lodge and lunch. In the afternoon, boat tour in the lower part of the river. During this 2-hour river safari, you will ride a comfortable boat down the Sarapiqui River and enjoy the very rich wildlife of this region. In there, it is easy to see Howler Monkeys, White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys, Sloths, Toucans, Crocodiles. Giant Iguanas, River Turtles, Otters, many aquatic birds and more.

After the tour, return to San Jose. Check In at Hotel Park Inn and Farewell Dinner.

Day 7. TRANSFER OUT (B). Transfer to the International Airport according with your scheduled flight and good bye. 

RATES: Please contact us for a quotation indicating number of students, adults and possible travel dates. Rates based on Triple & Quad occupancy for the students and double rooms for the teachers. No single rooms available unless a single supplement is paid. 

CHAPERONES:  One free ticket for every 20 students.

INCLUDE: 6 nights lodging in high quality Hotels, all land transportation within Costa Rica, all airport/ hotel transfers on scheduled arrival/ departures dates only, specified meals, specified tours, private transportation and naturalist tour guide. 

NOT INCLUDED: International air fare, airport departure taxes, meals not specified in the itinerary, alcoholic beverages, personal equipment, extras in hotels (laundry, phone calls, room service), gratuities, or costs associated with changes in your itinerary for reasons beyond our control.

Day 1 - Welcome to Costa Rica

  • Meet & Great at San Jose Airport

Day 2 - San Jose to Arenal Volcano

  • Enjoy a pleasant and sightseeing transfer to Arenal Volcano & Fortuna Town. Explore the tropical rain forest with a nature walk at Mistico Park and Hanging Bridges with our professional naturalist tour guide. Afternoon, relax at famous Baldi Hot Springs.

Day 3 & 4 - Asis Wildlife Rescue Center

  • Volunteer Program and Educational Tour at Asis Wildlife Rescue Center. Support the center helping on different duties that will be assigned by the center manager.

Day 5 - Arenal Volcano to Sarapiqui

  • Enjoy a pleasant and sightseeing transfer to Sarapiqui. Enjoy famous zipline canopy tour and whitewater rafting at Sarapiqui River.

Day 6 - Volunteer Program and Educational Tour

  • Volunteer Program and Educational Tour at Escuela Calle La Lucha. Here the students will have a cultural interchange with the local students and support the school with a cooperation project.

Day 7 - Transfers to International Airport

  • Transfers to International Airport. Time to say good bye. Have a safe and pleasant journey back to home.
