Discover one of Costa Rica’s most spectacular natural wonders on a guided trek through the lush rainforest of Tenorio Volcano National Park. Famous for its surreal, naturally turquoise waters, this hike takes you along scenic jungle trails to witness the breathtaking Rio Celeste Waterfall. Along the way, you will explore the dense jungle habitat, learn about the unique volcanic chemistry that gives the river its magical color, and spot diverse local wildlife.

Quick Facts & Logistics

• Departure Point: Your hotel in La Fortuna or the Bijagua/Tenorio area (Pickups from Guanacaste coastal areas can also be arranged upon request).
• Daily Schedules:
  • 8:00 AM | (Note: Morning departures are highly recommended to enjoy the clearest trail conditions and optimum sunlight on the blue water).
• Duration: Approximately 5 to 6 hours total 
• Pick-up Details: Complimentary pick-up from your hotel. The exact time will be confirmed via e-mail 24 hours prior to your tour.
• Participant Requirements:
  • Minimum Age: 5 years old (participants should be capable of walking on uneven, muddy terrain and navigating a series of steep stair steps to the waterfall view platform).
  • Minimum Group Size: Starts with 2 people.

Expedition Essentials (What to Bring)

To ensure your comfort, we recommend bringing:

• Footwear: Sturdy tennis shoes, trail runners, or hiking boots with excellent traction. (Note: The trail can get very muddy; rain boot rentals are usually available at the park entrance if needed. Open-toe sandals or flip-flops are strictly not allowed on park trails).
• Clothing: Lightweight t-shirt, shorts or quick-dry pants, a cap/hat, and a reliable raincoat or poncho (the rainforest weather can be unpredictable). Please note: Swimming is strictly prohibited by law inside the National Park.
• Protection: Eco-friendly mosquito repellent, sunglasses, and biodegradable sunscreen.
• Extras: A small backpack, a reusable water bottle, a camera or binoculars with waterproof protection, and extra cash for personal expenses.
