Your coffee lovers adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel and a relaxing private drive through the wonderful Costa Rican countryside on an air-conditioned transportation and recent model deluxe vehicle or minibus.
After a short and scenic 60-minute drive along the mountains of the central volcanic range and in route to Poas Volcano, you will arrive at Hacienda Alsacia, the only Starbucks property in the world dedicated to the production of coffee and for experimental purposes to spread new knowledge of this wonderful plant.
Experience the miraculous journey of coffee at our immersive new Visitor Center. Get a hands-on look at a working tree nursery, wet mill, drying patio and roaster. See what we’re doing to empower farmers, promote sustainable practices and develop the next generation of coffee.
Arabica beans were first introduced to Costa Rica in the 1700s. Today coffee is an important part of the country’s economy. To help ensure the future of coffee, the mission of Hacienda Alsacia is clear: Create best practices to make growing coffee more profitable for small-scale farms; develop the next generation of disease-resistant, high-quality coffee; and share information and resources freely with farmers around the world.
During this 90-minute tour you will learn all about this and taste a special Costa Rican cup of coffee & snack at the beautiful cafeteria. After the tour, return to your hotel in San Jose.
