Educational Travel Costa Rica with Greenway Tours. We offer 20 different Costa Rica Student Travel programs for schools, high school or universities interested in learning about rainforest, ecology and nature.

VISITING: Our Educational Travel Costa Rica included the following places: San Jose, Sarapiqui, Arenal Volcano.

EDUCATIONAL OBJETIVES: To learn about Rivers, Active Volcanoes, Rainforest, National Parks, Rain Forest, Wildlife & Ecotourism.

Day 1. WELCOME TO COSTA RICA (D). Our Educational Travel Costa Rica program start with the group arrival to the International Airport Juan Santamaria. Upon arrival at the San Jose airport, you will be met by one of our representatives how will explain your itinerary, answer any questions and provide you with a welcome kit & information about the trip. Transfer to Hotel Park Inn and free time at leisure.

Optional and depending on arrival time: City Tour: Visiting: San Jose, University of Costa Rica, San Pedro, Principal buildings as National Museum, National Teather, Congress, Yellow House, Plaza de la Cultura, Gold Museum, etc. Residential areas and principal Malls. Welcome Dinner.

Day 2. COFFE TOUR & SARAPIQUI (B, L, D) Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Doka State Coffe Plantations and Tour. At Doka, the students will be able to learn about many interesting aspects of the coffee plant, crop, harvesting, processing and exportation. Doka is an important company in Costa Rica for the coffee production and processing. It is an important supplier of Costa Rican coffee for many international companies. After the tour enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch, including rice & bean, vegetables, protein, salad, coffee and a soft drink. After lunch, the group will continue to Sarapiqui Region.

In Sarapiqui, check in at Selva Verde Lodge or similar. Free time for enjoy the place or swimming pool. Dinner at the lodge.

After dinner, transfer to La Tirimbina Reserve for a unique Night Walk into the Biological Reserve. Come and discover the rainforest in this unique opportunity at night! During this tour you will be guided across Tirimbina’s suspension bridge and explore the rainforest when it is dark and when most of the rainforest animals are active, you may have the opportunity to spot animals like sloths, the red-eyed tree frog, porcupine, kinkayou and more. After the tour, return to the lodge.

Day 3. SARAPIQUI COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEERING PROJECT (B, L, D).  Breakfast at the lodge and after it, transfer to the rural local school at Calle La Lucha. This is a very poor primary school with a student population of about 120 students in 6 levels. First to 6th grade. 

The students come from the community called La Lucha a peasant´s village where many are immigrants from Nicaragua and work in the pineapple plantations or farms nearby.

During our visit, the group will learn about their living conditions, customs and traditions of this region. At the school, the group will help and support it doing volunteerism, such as school painting, reforestation, organic farms, flower´s gardens etc.  Sport activities will be arranged such as soccer games and several other traditional games commons in Costa Rica. Combined with this visit, the group will be able to visit a typical and small farm, where the owner will explain to the group the common crops in the region, how to plant it, harvest and prepare. Here the group will learn about Black Pepper, Pineapple, Cassava, Jack Fruit, Cashews, Malanga, sweet potatoes and many other products.

After this activity, return to the lodge and lunch. In the afternoon, Boat Tour in the Sarapiqui River. Come and enjoy the observation of the exuberant flora and fauna that offers the majestic and historic Sarapiquí River has to offer. You will have the opportunity to observe monkeys, iguanas, and crocodiles, lazy, otters, Caymans in its natural habitat as well as a great diversity in species of birds. 

Day 4. ARENAL VOLCANO (B, L, D). Breakfast at the lodge and departure to our next destination: Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna Town. 

Located in the northern lowlands of Costa Rica, the impressive Arenal Volcano is a National Park that attracts thousands and thousands of tourists due to its beauty and recent past volcanic activity. Back in the 80´s the volcano was very active, but now has reduced its activity and we could say that it has entered a period of calm. However, the beauty of the Volcano and surroundings are just spectacular. Once in La Fortuna Town, a sightseeing tour will show you the highlights of the area and its rich diversity of tourist attractions, ecosystems, the lake, culture, customs & traditions of this emblematic town of Costa Rica.

Once in the area you will visit Mistico Park. At Mistico Park and Hanging Bridges, enjoy travelling the forest comfortably in our revitalizing paths full of nature and wildlife. In front of the majestic Arenal Volcano you can admire its beauty and the wonderful forest that surrounds it, as well as a reserve populated with wildlife in their natural habitat that will allow you an encounter with the roots of the human species. Walk across 10 regular bridges and 6 Hanging Bridges and gaze at a 18 meters (60 feet) waterfall within a comfortable non-slippery trail without steps and acquire a once in a life time bracing adventure. 

Later, you will relax in one of the best thermal water places in the area: Baldi Hot Springs. At Baldi Hot Springs you will find an endless dreamed stay, where the natural environment, colorful natural gardens, therapeutic waters, pure air and our care combine on a perfect state; the dream came true. The unique frame where your experience turns into the most unforgettable one. In here you will enjoy multiple thermal pools, a giant stem room, luxury pool bars, Giant water-slides, relaxing areas and much more.

Lunch & Dinner included in Baldi Springs. Overnight at Hotel Arenal Country Inn or similar.

Day 5. FORTUNA WATERFALL (B, L, D) Breakfast at the hotel. During the morning, excursion to La Fortuna Waterfall, where the students will enjoy this beautiful attraction and swim. 

The La Fortuna Waterfall is one of the best things to see when you come to the Arenal Area! You will love the hike down to this waterfall near the town of La Fortuna because you can see all of the natural beauty of the rainforest as well as the birds and wildlife that live there. Once you arrive to the La Fortuna Waterfall, prepare to be blown away by the beauty of this impressive waterfall near the Arenal Volcano! You will also be able to swim and take amazing photos! This popular attraction on TripAdvisor’s “Top Things to do in La Fortuna” is great for the whole family. 

The Fortuna River Waterfall is a natural area managed sustainably by Integral Development Association of La Fortuna (ADIFORT), a non-profit organization founded since August 31, 1969, having as its main objective to ensure the well-being and growth of La Fortuna community, through the work execution of road infrastructure, environment, education, promotion of sport and culture, community beautification and strengthening of public safety; projects that are possible to run thanks to funds raised by the visit of each tourist to this natural space.

After the visit to the waterfall, lunch in Fortuna Town. Afternoon, free time for rest and enjoy the hotel´s swimming pool or explore the town with our tour guide. Dinner in Town.

Day 6. RIO CELESTE NATIONAL PARK WALK. (B, L, D) Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Rio Celeste. This all day tour introduces travelers to one of Costa Rica’s most incredible sights – the enchanting, blue-hued Río Celeste. The river’s color is the result of the chemical mixture of sulfur and carbonate, which originate in the nearby Tenorio Volcano. Seeing this sky-blue river flow through a dense rainforest is an undeniably amazing experience.

While on this tour, you’ll hike through both primary and secondary rainforest in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. Enjoy the trails while searching for monkeys, sloths, tropical birds and more. As the hike continues, you’ll soon arrive along the banks of the Río Celeste. Have your camera ready, because you’re going to want it! The trail winds along the banks of the river, taking you upstream as you hike. The further upriver you travel, the deeper the color of blue in the water. You’ll eventually reach the point where this color is generated – the confluence of the Buena Vista and Roble rivers.

As the hike continues, you’ll soon arrive at an impressive waterfall – a wonderful place to take pictures. Once the hike is completed, you’ll be rewarded with a delicious meal and fresh fruit. This hike is recommended for people in good physical condition. Although it is not physically grueling, it does require solid health and stamina.  Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a camera, swimsuit, and insect repellent.

Continuing our tour by the area, the group will visit a great and unique Labyrinth designed by a local farmer, where complete it will be a real challenge to all.

The return to the hotel will be by late afternoon. Dinner in Town.

Day 7. ARENAL VOLCANO LAKE– SAN JOSE. (B, L, D) Breakfast at the hotel and Boat tour in Arenal´s Lake. 

Take a break from the high action, adrenaline-pumping adventure tours in the area and enjoy a serene boat tour of Lake Arenal. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the wind in your hair as you sail around the lake. Our adventure boat captain will start the engines and away you’ll go! You’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap pictures and take in the sights as you make your way leisurely around the lake. The grand Arenal Volcano towers majestically over the lake and can be seen throughout the tour, though the boat will take you for an up-close-and-personal view and magnificent photo opportunity!

After the tour, return to the hotel and check out. Continuing our journey, you will head to San Jose. Upon arrival, check in at Hotel Park Inn.

By 7:00 PM departure to a nice restaurant for the Farewell Dinner and say Good bye.

Day 8. TRANSFER OUT (B). Transfer to the International Airport according with your scheduled flight and good bye. We hope you have enjoyed our Educational Travel Costa Rica program.

Day 1 - Welcome to Costa Rica

Day 2 - Doka Estate

  • Learn all about coffee with a visit to Doka Estate. Later, transfer to Sarapiqui region. Evening, night walk tour at Tirimbina Biological Reserve.

Day 3 - Volunteer Program and Educational Tour

  • Volunteer Program and Educational Tour at Escuela Calle La Lucha. Here the students will have a cultural interchange with the local students and support the school with a cooperation project. Afternoon, boat tour in Sarapiqui River.

Day 4 - Arenal Volcano

  • Visit one of the highlights of Costa Rica, Arenal Volcano and enjoy the day at Baldi Hot Springs, a world class complex with multiple thermal pools, wet bars, deluxe restaurants and amazing facilities.

Day 5 - Fortuna Waterfall

  • Visit the famous Fortuna Waterfall. Nature walk with our naturalist tour guide.

Day 6 - Tenorio Volcano National Park

  • Nature Walk at Tenorio Volcano National Park and Rio Celeste. Learn about the chemical process that transform 2 crystalline rivers into one light blue color one.

Day 7 - Transfer to San Jose

  • Enjoy a boat tour at the largest lake in Costa Rica. Enjoy a pleasant and sightseeing transfer to San Jose. Farewell Diner.

Day 8 - Transfers to International Airport

  • Time to say good bye. Have a safe and pleasant journey back to home.
